A tour across Samaná is therefore a wonderful experience, giving you insight into typical Dominican life on the peninsula and its inhabitants.

We drive through the mountains to the town of Sánchez. On the way, you will enjoy an impressive panoramic view of Samaná Bay and Los Haitises National Park.
Upon arrival in the old port town of Sánchez, we take a stroll through the city.
In the 19th century, Sánchez was a flourishing and wealthy port town. During our walk, we will still see traces of that era: we visit a Victorian-style house, the marketplace, the church, and the town hall. At the old port, we discover the remains of the pier and the 19th-century railway.

We continue past coconut plantations to the Los Cocos Waterfall. Hidden behind a small village, we reach it after a short walk and enjoy a moment of peace.

Arriving in the historic center of Santa Bárbara de Samaná, the provincial capital, we take a city tour through the partly cobblestoned streets and admire the colonial architecture. Particularly noteworthy is the Santa Bárbara Church, built in neo-Gothic style. Santa Bárbara offers even more: historical bridges connecting the offshore islands, a market visit, and a ride in the traditional “Caretas,” a type of local transport found only in Samaná.

We enjoy our typical Dominican lunch in the mountains, and on the return trip, we stop to sample natural products from Samaná. In a small tobacco factory, the production of Dominican cigars is explained. Visitors may taste coffee, cacao, mamajuana, and are also invited to a rum tasting.
