Explore the first city of the New World, Santo Domingo.
In 1496, the first Europeans settled the capital of the Dominican Republic, although it is officially said that Christopher Columbus’ brother founded it in 1498. Thus, Santo Domingo is the oldest city built by Europeans in the New World. In 1990, UNESCO designated the historic old town on the western bank of the Rio Ozama a World Heritage Site.
During the city tour you will see sights such as the Columbus House, the Faro de Colon or the oldest stone street in the “New World” – Calle de las Damas. Cool off at the 4D cinema in the old town and immerse yourself in the world of pirate history. Afterwards, visit the first cathedral built on American soil.
After lunch, you will have enough time for shopping and walking in the old town.
